Red face Update on Keiko

On the 5/05/2009 I went and brought Keiko. I haven't updated on him since then.

Anyway, he's now 7 months old and he says: hello, hello hello, scratch, up, peek-a-boo, uh oh, Keiko, Shiro and a few others we don't quite understand yet!

Might be getting another Quaker also, hopefully within the next few months.

Here's some updated photos of Keiko

He's beautiful!! I am happy hes talking up a storm for you, how fun. How is life with a quaker? Months ago I was going to add one to my flock and then opted against it due to noise. Im glad to hear you are getting another one, I bet they will have fun together!

I'm sorry, this is going to be a smidge off-topic, but...

I just came back from a 2-day job down in DE and found my conure's lower beak has the same sort of scaling/peeling that your quaker has on the upper part. I assume this is normal/healthy? What does it mean and how does it happen? Does anyone know?

Yep, its normal ! As long as its not overly peeling/scaling.. I don't think i've ever seen a parrot that has a perfectly smooth beak :P

That's so cute that he says all those things! I just got my green quaker (I love the blue's, but couldn't pay the extra $$) about a month ago, and he was hatched 4/20/09. He is becoming less fearful and is now a little more vocal, but still not really noisy. I wonder if he will ever talk...I talk to him all the time when I'm home, and when I go to work I leave the radio on. He is very sweet though, and will be sweeter as he gets more and more comfy in his new home. Your baby is beautiful, congrats!

I feel in love with a blue Quaker today. How does your Quaker do with other birds?

Life with Keiko is perfect. He can be noisy, but we're used to it now, and his screaming/screeching/calling is just something we've dealt with. He is out of his cage for at least 7 hours during the morning and day, and a couple of hours is spent outside for fresh air and sun. The only time he gets the craps is if he's left in his cage for a few hours (which happens when we go out) that's really the only times he will start screaming, but apart from that they're excellent birds.. if noise is an issue though, yeah, that's where the problems come in, sadly.

Apparently adding a second = more noise. But we don't mind because noise is not an issue where we live, 'cause we live on a 1000+ acerage of bushland with no neighbors!

He will start talking soon, trust me! Keiko took a few weeks to start saying words when I first got him, they need a couple of days to settle in before they go back to their normal, chattery selfs.

Keep repeating words, because in the past week, I've taugh Keiko to bark like a dog (he repeated it straight away) say 'what's up' and 'goodbye'... he NEVER shuts up now, he talks all the time, hehe.

Not good, lol. He hates any other birds near him. So he can't be in my room while the budgies and 'tiels are out.. he has a fetish for biting/grabbing their feet.
