Smile WHAT'Shisname?

Did anyone else have this much trouble naming their bird?! LOL! I always feel like I take so long to some up with names that are just right for my beaked and four-legged kids. I was sure I was settled on "Toby" for this guy and loved it and it's meaning, and it's a GREAT name for sure but have you ever felt like a name just wasn't totally sticking for whatever reason? So we might change that. It's not like he even had a name before he came home 2 weeks ago (he was one of many) or is used to this one yet. I guess what's another day or two, right? He's going to have it for a loong time so we might as well make sure we get it right!
One of the names at the top of my list is "Apple", because it sounds adorable and of course, he looks like some varities of green apples, all round and green with some grey! I've liked it since last week and also Hsmoscout I saw on your signature that you have an Apple too! If I remember correctly a conure? I'll have to look! Anyway it's just too cute and I liked it a little while back but my husband is all over the place with names (LOL) and he wasn't crazy about it at first. But now that I'm starting to actually say it and try it out, he doesn't mind it and actually likes it! So that might be the one. We'll see how it fits tentatively! Hey thanks for listening...it's nice to talk to people who I know will understand how important these big little birds are!

Oh yes naming birds is so hard, I thought of things that interested me, famous people, the meanings of names (from a kids name book) thought about the astrology of the baby bird, numerological value of names.....it wasn't till I saw an orbituary for Dusty Springfield in my local paper I decided. Dusty isn't a female or male name (didn't know what the baby was) Dusty S was a lesbian who never found lasting love, she self harmed and generally had a rotten life. So I used her name for my bird, determined my Dusty would have all the love the human Dusty didn't. Crazy...but you take inspiration where you find it.

Ooh those are all good! Dusty, Que and Peru! Love all of those! How long did it take you to decide?
One of my budgies is Tungsten, after a model of Palm handhelds and another is Dewey; my husband liked that one and he looks like a blueberry dewdrop (donut holes from a local place). My boy tiel is Ducky and he goes in the shower for a bath and I sing him the Rubber Ducky song, lol! I still have a girl tiel and 2 budgies to name too actually. This might take awhile!

As most of us know on this board when I was naming Neko, it took almost 2 weeks. I ended up just using names with him and finding what was HIM the best. Its definitely a pain in the butt but his name will come and it will be perfect!! Once you find his personality and how he interacts you will start calling him something without thinking and that will be the name!

Oh thank you! I am so glad I am not the only one! I drive my husband crazy, he will suggest a name and no matter what it is, 95% of the time I'm like "I knew a <insert animal> named that," (I've worked around lots of birds, dogs, and horses, lol!) and I won't want to use it for whatever reason. I'm still loving "Apple" so far though!
