Mildly disappointed...anybody have

anything encouraging to say? I love my Quaker, he/she's the best fid I've ever owned, so even if she never talks, that's not why I got her. But that said, I really wouldlike her to talk. I haven't seen any sign of that yet, and she's 6 months old. I've seen posts here with Quakers 4 months old talking. Would Jazz be talking by now if she was going to, or is it still too soon to say she's not going to.

Definitely very early to expect to much. She will talk with time, if she is able. Most are pretty good at repeating words. Start with Hello or peek a boo. In time they will learn to echo you. If she doesn't talk you will still love her! Right!?

You have a Quaker and you are worried if she will ever talk? No worries its coming... just wait for it. Keep talking to her. Quakers are excellent talkers. My In-Laws have one. Its biggest word is "horticulture." We like to mess with him to see what all he can say. He has a HUGE vocabulary. Give it time.

Thanks guys! I feel better already, and I definitely will still love her even if she never talks! I speak to her, but it's kinda quiet in my house (as far as human conversation goes) because I live alone except for the pets, so unless I'm talking to them, the cat, or on the phone, they hear the tv or radio/cd's. Don't know if that makes a big difference or not. But he/she is so sweet anyway!

How long have you had her?

Have you tried the radio or tv? Mine LOVES to listen to that stuff and just jabber... it's no words, she's got the laughing down, but mostly just jabbers.
Does yours jabber? How long do you spend time with her?

Can you post some pics :D -- I'm a sucker for quakers.

I am guilty of talking to myself A LOT more since i got my Ekkie, since i have to constantly talk to her so she knows where i am. Maybe you should make a conscious effort to talk around her more?

Though my fiance's mum's quaker is a talker, it's usually only when there's a loud noise, like the vacuum cleaner, that he'll usually pipe up! Otherwise it's dead silence!

Just thought I'd add to this thread! I know nothing about Quakers although from what's been posted it would seem you will most probably have a chatty bird soon!

I do know about Greys though and I know they are renowned for being the best talkers in the parrot world. Mojo and Shinda (hatched last year) are saying more and more as the weeks go by!

However, Henry who is forty-five years old has NEVER said a word! Not with his previous owners and not here!

I don't mind this one little bit, I love him regardless of whether or not he talks like a human! I'm just pointing out that even a bird that people tell you will talk in time won't do necessarily do so

How long have you had Henry? I would be surprised if he didn't pick it up from your other birds?

About six months and he's lived with other (talking) Greys all his life!

I've spoken with several Quaker owners who have told me that they've had Quakers that have never talked at all. That's ok, I still love her sweet little self!
