Ringneck fighting with rosella.

hi,about six or seven weeks ago i was given a rosella and have recently just put her in the same room with my ringneck, the rosella is not tame and rarely comes out of her cage and she wont let me take her out of the cage either without freaking out so i just leave it open for her if she wants to come out,but she fights with my ringneck when she does come out and my ringneck has gone into her cage a few times to steal food and they always start pecking and screaming at each other,is there anything i can do to stop them fighting??i know they wont ever live in the same cage or anything but i would like them to enjoy the company of another bird.

Your best bet is to not allow them out at the same time... and if they go to eachothers cages, then it may be better to not allow them to live in the same room.

I don't think you can ever teach them to like one another. In a few months, when your new bird feels secure, they may interact a little better. I would keep them out of each other's "space" for at least a month, then slowly have one out at a time and let them approach the other if they want. It may be that they will always be this way. We would love to see pics of your new baby!

Just one question

Why cant people figure out that if their birds are fighting then SEPERATE THEM!

Its not hard to understand, its simple, its common sense.

I get calls all of the time from people that have the same problem with their birds fighting and dont know what to do.

Why?

I guess some people would enjoy it if their birds could get along in the same room and wondering if there is some way to make this possible.

like i said, they have SEPERATE cages,i was trying to find out if there was some way that they would get along outside eventually without fighting because i think it would benefit them to have the company of another bird sometimes.

you could try the eyesight, but not touching way. Just let them visually see and hear eachother during the waking hours. Maybe in months.. they might someday like eachother.

Or, grab a bowl of pomegranates.. my birds go NUTS for them. One on each side of a chair arm. Treat them both silly, without pushing them to interact. Then put back into their respective cages.
Repeat. Maybe moving one an inch closer one time. Lots of time. Maybe someday you can have them both in your lap, treating away. Maybe not though.

I just had to separate my bonded pair of ringnecks. The male got to be too much for the female. He's flock calling all day long *groans* and wants to go back to her, but if I let that happen NOW, he'd just beat the crud outta her in a week. Take time, relax, and if something happens, it does, and GREAT!

Very pretty pale headed Rosella you have their. They can learn to get along with other birds in a large aviary but they can also be very agressive. These two birds seem to have taken a dislike to each other so I don't think they will ever get along. Sorry!
