moustached keets being GOOD

well....since these guys are some dirty, nasty little buggers...we had to take down their cages, soak them in the tub and scrub them clean, LOL, so i decided to take them into the bedroom and let them hang out on the playgym while their cages were being cleaned....and what do ya know?? look how good they behaved!! only one of them bit the crap outta my thumb, right on my joint, but it didnt break skin, and since it was on the bone, he didnt bruise my flesh and leave a welt :D good for me LOL BUT, even this baby that bit me stepped up and stayed on my finger while i walked him back to his cage, all the way from the bedroom!! they all did!!

this is such a huge thing becuase we have 4 moustached, two are tame still, and always have been, even though they are paired up with their mates. the other two (the wilder ones are the ones who have leg bands, the tame ones are not banded) were HORRIBLY wild when i got them. they were still babies, but they werent handled after they weaned and became very wild. when i first got them, there was no way in hell that i would ever have gotten them to sit still on the playstand, then get them to step up onto a finger and ride all the way from the bedroom to their cage in the other room!! they would have rather thrashed about their cage and all over the room and given themselves a heart attack, rather than be anywhere near humans :(

over time, they have become much more tame, and today was the first time ever that i have gotten those two wild babies to step up!! and they were extra good cause they rode through the house on my finger and didnt fly off at all, not even the one that bit me!!

(also, check out the orange beaks on the males!! arent they pretty?? i love their orange beaks, they used to be black)

This is the pair that has the REALLY sweet male, i just love him!! we have always gotten along really well :) hes the one with the orange beak. his mate is the one that bit me, lol, shes the one with the black beak.

this is the other pair. the female is sweet too :) she is the sister of the male from the other pair. shes so fat and cute :)

this is her and her mate...his beak is also turning the pretty orange :)

this is her wild mate, being good!! hes stepping up and hes NOT biting!! yippee!!

ya like his tiny mohawk??

this is them getting ready to go back to their nice clean cage :)

they are beautiful!! why does one have a black beak and the other a lighter one? is it because they are male and female?

my males have orange beaks and my hens have black ones....thats all :)

moustached are SWEET little birds!! as you can see these guys are kept in pairs, but the two that were tame from the beginning are still tame, almost a year later :) the wild onese are becoming alot more tame too, and i dont try to mess with them much, i let them come to me. i always go talk to them in their cages and they love to give kisses!! they compete with each other for attention, they want all the attention for themselves!! LOL

Lol what about hornbills? im sure the zoo's would pay a ton or trade. Lol there was a zoo that was over populated with emus so they were selling them for $50 each LOL! I think it would be so funny to say "come over and see my new bird!! its a bit bigger than a cockatiel" then theres this massive emu in the middle of the yard HAHAHA
