Arrow albino ringneck parrot sex

Hi!! i have a white albino ring neck parrot..

He/She is gorgeous...

Our only problem is that we can't really tell the sex of our ringneck... as he/she is an albino... so no ring around the neck anyway...

I don't know if there is another way you can tell the sex of this ringneck. Only thing i can say is that he/she is now 2 yeats old and the last couple of months he/she started to do like a mating dance... my ringneck points the tail up, and lowers the chest and wings, and put up the head making a funny noise... also it's eyes (dark red as it's an albino) changes.. the white gets bigger and the red smaller... and also at that time he/she wants to cuddle him/her.. can you tell from that if it is a boy or girl?

thanks a million

Sounds like a female to me, as only females will put their tail in the air, bring out their wings a little, maybe even quiver them... Males "wag" their tails, so to speak...

If you know the parents mutations it is easier to determine sex... as albino is a sex-linked gene... meaning if the father was an albino or was split for albino, however the hen did not show the mutation then any chicks born albino would be females (since females cannot be split for the mutation). If the hen is albino but the cock does not carry the gene then all male offspring will be split for albino. If both parents carry the albino gene then you'll get both male and female albino offspring.

well i dunno if helps to add that when he/she does that, while the bird has it's head down, and it wants me to pet it, it swings the head in circles and does a weird sound... my sis sais that the sound is like "ku ku ku ku"..
thought it is a female too as it has the tail up.... but why it does that and demands to pet it too? if you dont' pet it it gets irritated...

Putting the tail up is a sign of wanting to be mounted... and it wants to be mated with.... thus while she is in this stance you don't really want to be paying her any attention... of course a hen will get upset if her chosen one ignores her when she allows herself to be mated with!

When she displays this behavior ignore her. Be sure she gets 12 hours of sleep during the night. It may help to decrease the amount of fatty foods (i.e. sunflower seeds, pellets, safflower seeds) from the diet and increase the amount of fresh foods she gets.

Well, I can't really say I know much about ringneck hormonal behaviors however I'd still would say that's mating behavior, unless of course someone else says otherwise... and thus it's not a good idea to touch her on her back, wings, sides, etc. Any touching (other than her sitting on you) should be restricted to the head area only. And when she does that behavior to ignore her. You don't want to encourage her to lay eggs.

I would definately say female. As far as I know females make the clucky sounds and males like to dance and show off to get the females attention. I will see if I can find a clip of indie dancing and post it here for you.
