Ringneck at the Pet Store

My local pet store put my name down on a list for when they recieved more IRN babies.

Well they called me this past weekend to let me know that they were getting a blue IRN in and the price was..... $799.99!!!!!!

They had left a voicemail on my cellphone, if they had gotten me in person I would of laughed at them!

IRNs are hard to find up here, but come on, that is a crazy price tag, right? I paid $330 for Ace and that was with $130 shipping. I could of bought a blue one for $430 with shipping and that is still almost $400 less!

Crazy!

Im assumin you arnt in aus.. Ring necks here go anywhere from 80 - 220 aud and yeah handreared ones for just alil over 300.. so id suggest buying from aus if you can.. I can dig around for afew breeders.. I used to work in the pet industry.. But yeah I blame the government.. Taxs and rates are too high.. Breeders have to up their prices to live lol.. And its stupid what prices pet shops pay.. Cuz you know they just won't sell with the mark up.. Don't give in.. Hunt around :)

New York City, USA, vs Tasmania, south of Australia...

Unless it's a pet, it's illegal to import or export birds from Australia. I don't know the exact laws, but with PBFD in many of the wild birds, I doubt it's the best of ideas...

Besides, even if it was legal, with the price of the importation, coupled with the costs of quarantine, it's not practical....

Generally speaking, petstores cost more than breeders do...

Yeah that price is inflated very high. I'd look for a reputable breeder that is local, or even if its not, maybe check into the breeder you got ace from.

We got our Kiwi for 250$, and I'd say this is about average.

Thanks ladies!

I am not looking for another IRN, I had put my name on the list before I found Ace. They happened to call me the same weekend I got Ace!

I know pet stores inflate the prices, but that price tag seemed way out there to me. I am in New York and there really aren't any IRN's here, in pet stores or breeders. The breeder I got Ace from was a small breeder in Alabama who was awesome!

Maybe it's something you could look into. Maybe expanding into breeding in the future and selling the babys yourself once there weaned... You could pick and choose who they go to and make alot of people happy...
