New Alexandrine Parrot: Taming Questions

hi all,
well, i am having a parrot. which is alaxandre(a red ring around the neck). have got a month before. he is a big one, and a talking one. means, someone already tamed.
well, he is try to mimic few words frm our talks. now have tried to feed from my hand. today have feed grains, from my hand, as one by one. after few, have put food in hand, opend the cage, and put my hand inside.first, he though something, afterwards, slowly came near to my hand, and used to eat.

well, my question is, how can i tame a parrot??its wings are trimmed.the age of a parrot is a main thing for taming?? and parrots will attack our hands????

interested to get guidance frm the experienced mates

thanking you in advance

If he is already tamed, whats there to tame then?
Just let him get used to you first, be patient and it takes time.
He will slowly get used to you and then the more time you spend with him, the tamer he will get.

They love to break/chew things, so get him some wooden toys to play with, he will love it, they are a very curious one, and will try to touch anything.

They are a beautiful bird, i have a 7month old male alexandrine.
Got any pictures? i would love to see some (i have a thread in ringnecks section showing mine), how old is he?(besides having the red/pinkish ring around his neck, he should have a black ring under his neck as well).

How exciting! I would love an Alex. I am going to move this thread over to the ringneck forum, where I think you will find a lot more information. It sounds like he is interacting really well for being so new to your family. Some birds are afraid of hands and you will have to get them to step up onto your arm or a stick. If he hasn't bitten you when you put your hand in the cage (which is his safe zone), this is probably not the case with your new bird. There is a lot of debate about clipping, and if you use the search feature (on the top blue bar), you will find discussions on both sides. I think many people agree it may be easier to handle a new bird if they are clipped, but if sounds like your new baby is pretty tame.

What is his name? We want pictures!!

Awww congrats on your new bird! I would also like to see pictures and know his name!

I don't have much advice for taming as I received a tame baby (IRN) from a breeder. But we are trying to "get used' to eachother. It sounds like your bird is probably pretty tame but just needs to warm up to you guys more, learn to trust.

You seem to be on the right track!

Oh and a secret...my birds LOVE sunflower kernels, my alexandrine is like a hungry dog with them, she will do ANYTHING for a sunflower kernal. She's a pig lol.

And yeah the chewing, gotta watch out for that lol, will chew anything...eg.

My pen is her pen apparently...

Courtzrocks, she is adorable, love that picture, she looks very happy :)

Mobileman,
Thank you for sharing some pictures, he is handsome for sure :) he seems to be curious hehe, i cant wait for mine to get his ring around his neck, i didnt realise they get a red around theyre eyes as well? and is his lower beak gone black, or am i not seeing properly?(i thought they stayed orangeish?).
How big is your bird from its head to his tail? im just wondering how big they get when fully grown.

Mine had a swim today, gee they love to have a bath, he really enjoyed it, so get a nice shallow dish with some water and put it in his cage.

With naming, thats a bit hard, so many good names, but you want to name him something you chose yourself i think, something thats easy for you to remember and something to suit your particular bird.
I named mine Sunday, as he was born on a sunday and i bought him on a sunday, and i liked it.
I had a list before and it was something like this:
Alex (easy and most common i think)
Hulk
Chewie
Nippy
Yoda(i really liked this one too)

Just observe him and see if you can come up with something that will suit him.

That looks like an indian ringneck more than an alexandrine. Smaller than an alexandrine, and its beak isnt big enough and it also doesnt have the reddish wing patches and the ringnecks lower beak is black where as the alexandrine beak stays red...i think you have an indian ringneck there mobileman.

Hmm, It sure does look alot like an IRN and not a ARN. Or maybe an African Ringneck? Although I am not sure what major differences Africans have from IRNs.
