Lightbulb Unbelievable!!!

I had an untamed abino Indian Ringneck. I was told it was a female. That bird hated me so much and still does. . I decided to give her to my niece who's 14 years old. It took her less than a week to tame the bird. I couldn't believe it.. She's the friendliest bird I ever seen now. I know that ringneck are very hard to tame. I was told before that it might take even months to tame them. It took her about 4 days to be tame.
After my experience with that bird, I lost interests in ringnecks but now I am having second thoughts. I can't take the bird back. It's my niece's bird.
I am happily owned by 1 cockatiel named Star. I might have to get a companion for Star and I am thinking that it will be a ringneck.

Please, be VERY careful with a ringneck and a tiel. I own both and have to keep the ringneck in a locking cage when the tiels are out.

She will kill them. I thought that care and love would calm the urge, but she attacked and killed a life size picture of a tiel on a bag of pellets.

I know some put there will tell you that they have ones that do fine together, but keep in mind, it just takes one cranky mood for a ringneck to kill another bird.

Trust me, I know how aggressive they are. My nephews brought a cat home the other day. She came out of her cage to attack the cat. It was so funny. The cat was like is that a bird or something in disguise?..
I will have to find a really tame one that's used to other animals.

Awww, that is great that she was able to tame him up!! Sometimes its just a certain person that can get through to a bird, you just never know!

As for an IRN as a companion bird for a tiel... I would be very hesitant. IRNs sometimes don't do very well with their own species, let alone another one. They are tricky birds to work with when it comes to adding another bird into the mix. Some have problems, then again some don't. Even the most tame bird you can find may be aggressive towards another bird!

If you wanted to do seperated cages and supervised play time, that may be a good option. This way they have their own space but can play with eachother when your around!

You guys are making me have second thoughts. I will have to do some more reading about that.. I saw that video where an IRN attacks a cockatiels pic on a food box.. I know how nasty they bite. I was bleeding one time from her bite.

My female Scarley was a booger when I got her. Took me TWO YEARS to tame her. She's snippy now but it's my fault because I'm not spending enough time with her. I work alot at the moment but after october that will change. I'm going to quit my 2nd job.

I have a male ringneck, he was around 7 months old and not tame when I got him. He sometimes picked on my one cockatiel, which made me worried. One time he grabbed her toe. I thought, darn, I guess this isn't going to work. But when I moved back home with my parents, I had a bigger room (and more birds! haha two more cockatiels by then...) and Benny has had less problems with aggression since then.. I figure because he has enough space, plus they're used to me intervening right away if there is a fight... but that usually happens more often between the cockatiels (I have four 'tiels now.).
I think it depends on the individual bird; I think Benny thinks he's just a big cockatiel. Ooop gotta go, tiels are fighting!
