Munchkin has just been clipped

I have just gone to get Munchkin's wing clipped. The vet actually got me to do it as he talked me through I now in a way wish I didn't, she looks so miserable, she can't fly at all, can't even get any lift off the floor just ends up in a heap and I am not sure if she has hurt her wing or just not use to the feeling, but she is holding that wing out.

Will she get use to it ? Will she get back to being her cheerful happy self ? Did any of you have any problems like this after wing clipping ?

she most likely getting use to the feeling........when you clip sometimes the clipped wing will poke a bit, it will take a few days but you should see a dramatic change in attitude.........when clipping again just dont go as short

I hope so she just seems so sad, doesn't want to come near me (which I can understand why) I have been so brutal to her I suppose it would be like us not being able to use our leg

What do you mean by "holding her wing out?" If the wing is outstreatched- call the vet. If it is open slightly at the shoulder- watch him. Sometimes the clip is bad and the sharp end digs into the bird.
It is wonderful that the vet showed you the correct way to do it.
Usually my bird is 'mad' at me for a couple of days. i bet he would be really mad if i cut his wings.
The advice given to you was good- let the bird learn to fly before clipping and leave enough wing so they can land without hurting themselves, and don't do it your self in the beginning. (During the trust building period.)

Clipping is and will always be quite a debate on this and all bird forums. I had planned on letting Echo be free flighted until he got so bold that he would fly around the house constantly he also had decided that the top of my head was his favorite perch. I gave in and had only the outer 5 flights cut giving him the ability to glide but not fly. I am so glad I did.

Just take one day and read about all the birds that accidentally flew away. Someone looses a bird just about everyday of the year. It only takes a second for them to get out the door and be gone for good. She may be mad now but will quickly learn that it is the way it will be.

I am not a vet, no member of a message board can substitute for a visit to a good avian vet in the case of potential health problems
