New Moustached Parakeet

I thought I woud post these here too. Brought him home Sunday, and still working on a name (girlfriend and I can't agree). Hatched 6/8/08.

Anyone else around with a moustache and if so how big are they supposed to get? I have read they get 12-14 in. head to tail, which he is almost there now, but the breeder told me he will double in size...doesn't fit what i've read.

Mine is about as big as my Quaker. I think it would be more around the 8-10in size. The Quakerr being longer due to the length of the tail. The vet might be thinking of an Alexandrian. They get to be almost as big as a CAG, well the one I have is.

yeah he looks like he is pretty much full size. Alexandrines get bigger. He is a good looking moustache though! Looks very healthy.

Umm... huh? Quakers are tiny compared to a Moustache. And the Moustache has the tail. <hands Sprecker a cup of coffee before he falls asleep on the keyboard and starts drooling. No... wait... that is what SHE does at this hour of night!>

Moustaches are indeed about 12-14 including tail. Derbians are a lot larger and similarly colored. I worry about breeders who lie.

Moustaches are what I believe to be a perfect size... big enough to find, small enough to avoid finger surgery.

They make adorable "honking" noises when happy. They like to chew. They are VERY active. They can supposedly talk well... but I have yet to meet one that does!

They are sweet... but not snuggly.

All these are generalizations formed from the 3 rehabs I dealt with and 2 I know from friends who own them... and one in the pet store I was manager of.

I personally ADORE them!

I was there. I watched you buy him. He will get bigger than he is now. He is just a baby. He will get a little bigger than your indian ringneck.

You are correct about the length including tail (Quakers do have a rather long tail aswell FYI) but their body size is almost identical to a Quaker (unless my Quaker is just big). The Moustache has a little larger head and that is about it. Charlie (the Moustache) is quite the talker. Some times hewill go on for hours just babbling to whom ever. He also picks up words rather quickly.

Tequila,
That is what I thought about the size, and even thought the breeder may have been thinking Derbyan when he told me that...and he already makes those honking noises, and in fact makes a really sad and pathetic honk when we take him back to his cage before he wants to go.
Jesse,
That's neat that you saw me get him, do you go there alot, I get most all of my supplies from there. Did we speak at all? When I first stopped at that table it was about the baby blue Ringneck, and then everything changed. He already is quite a bit bigger than Shea (body wise).
Sprecker,
He does have a big head. I know from the Alexandrine size (local bird store has had one for a while) and it if he did actually double his current size, he'd be a bit bigger than an Alex.
Courtzrocks,
He does seem healthy and happy. By the way, iv'e seen pics of Matches, and they makes me want that Alex at the local bird store. But that would be a ways down the road.

I see you have Senegals. Ebbetts won't get much bigger than them body wise.
By the way forgot to mention how pretty Ebbetts is. My Charlie is getiing over some bad times and is not in perfect feather yet. I bought my Charlie from a store that was mistreating (kept with other birds that plucked his tail) him. He is coming around but is still looking a little rough.

Matt, I was sitting in a chair next to the blue ringneck and sun conure. No I don't think we spoke. I live about 30 miles from there.
