Why are you getting a baby so young? If you don't have experience hand feeding birds, then I don't advise you to start now with a 3 week old baby. Hand feeding cannot be done any way and there is an exact science to it - if you are not doing it correctly or the formula isn't prepared exactly right you can easily damage the crop which can lead to long term problems, injection, and death.
I advise you to keep the baby with breeder and have them hand raise the baby for you until it is weaned. If you must do this yourself then I cannot say it enough go to the vet an avian vet only and have the teach you how to hand fed your baby. Not just show you, but teach you with step by step instructions. It is very important that your baby be fed by someone with hand feeding experience. |

No responsible breeder sells unweaned babies. Period. No exceptions. This is really not a good idea, how would you feel if you hurt or killed this baby?
Too much, too little, sour crop, crop burn, etc are all major issues that you will have to be fully aware of. And it can not be taught over a forum on online at all for that matter. |

I have never heard of a carella, so I cannot compare, but dogs and birds are totally different. You said that the breeder is not willing to hand raise the bird, but she is willing to sell the bird at 3 weeks for hand feeding? I'm sorry to say, but I do not like the sound of this breeder. Most "good" breeders will not sell any bird that hasn't been weaned and if they do only to someone they know who is a very experienced hand feeder.
Have you thought of using a different breeder that will hand raise there babies? I'm sorry to be the one to say this, but who ever you are getting your bird from does not sound like she knows much. At 3 weeks of age you baby will need to be in a brooder - Will you have a brooder ready for your baby? There are so many things to look at and so many things that can go wrong. Giving advice is not going to really teach you anything. When learning how to hand fed it NEEDS to be hand-ons. |

and i will say once again that there is some one that has done it b4 many times to help show me what to do HANDS ON im asking for extra advise not to be told that its a bad idea,if you are not whiling to give extra advise which would be outside of what my sister will teach me then that is fine,i appreciate your concern but i dont really want to hear more of ''its not a good idea subject'' and in responce to the comment about the difference of dogs and birds i already stated that i know there is a difference,oh and i just realised i spelt it wrong i was meaning CORELLA

This is a public message board so you are going to get alot of answers that you don't like and you will also get alot that you do like, that is just how things go on message boards. People care alot more about the animals well being then the people, so if you are getting alot of the same answers or answers that you don't like it is because we all here are speaking for the bird.
I personally don't think that anyone on this board is going to give you advice as I am sure most people do not like what you are doing, so they don't want to be apart of it. I personally don't believe in what you are doing and I cannot be a part of it and that is why I haven't given any advice. But - if your sister is an experienced hand feeder and is going to teach you how to hand feed, why do you need advice. There is really only one correct way to hand feed a baby and if she is experienced what we tell you here will be the same as she will tell you. You are aware that there is alot more to hand feeding then just the actually feeding right? |

yes i am quite aware that there is alot more then just feeding, and the reason for wanting more advice is because i dont belive anyone person would know everything there is to know about one set subject so i thought it might be a good idea to ask for advice, obviously not..........anyway ill make a new post once i have my baby and it is doing well to keep people posted
