I've lost my mind!

I must have lost my mind or something like that - I just brought home a Moustache not to mention I put down a deposit on an amazon baby earlier today.

A friend of mine who works at the local petco gave me a call, one of there babies were returned and no one can handle it. She called me for advice and if I had time to come take a look at it.

Story on this Moustache: It was one of there babies that they had fed, it was then bought by someone who came and had 5 supervised visits with the bird at the store and then purchased. It was then returned back to the store and was a nervous wreck. This youngster used to be a very sweet baby that anyone could handle, but once it was returned it was terrified of everyone, would bite, and wouldn't let anyone handle it.

I went over to see it, they tried to bring it out of the cage with no luck - I gave it try and this cutie steps right up on my finger. He was hanging out on my shoulder looking around and very nicely nibbling on my ear. He was playing in my hair, preening my eye brows and eye lashes and even let me give him kisses. Needless to say everyone was amazed!!!

They do not know what happened to him, but it is believed that he was ignored or mistreated in some way since he came back completely terrified of everyone.

Anyway, I thought he was adorable and super sweet. He was scared of everyone, but was completely content with me. The fact that "something" happened to him I felt so sad and the only thing I could do is give him a forever home where he can be happy.

His first night has been wonderful - he is fully flighted and got to fly around his new home a bit today. He got to check everything out and just hand a grand ole time. My play gym is on wheels, so I wheeled it over to the sofa and we watched some TV together. He seems very happy and content and still as sweet as can be.

His age is not known, but he is somewhere between 5 and 6 months old, his feathers arent the prettiest, but once he starts eating better they will look much nicer. The sex is also unknown - at first I thought he was a female as in the store it looked as if the beak was turning black. Now that he has been home and I have had a chance to really look at him and from the pictures I took, it looks as if the beak might be turning red. I have no idea. I don't care what sex he or she is I am just curious, plus I like to know for naming. His chest has already started to get a few of his adult plumage as he has a few pinkish feathers there.

Anyway guys, I have gone on and on about this. Sorry about that. What do you guys think his sex is? Do you think the beak is turning red or black? I can't tell anymore - sometimes I think red and other times I think black as I am seeing both colors there.

Here are the pics!!!

This pic is the darkest his beak looks

Ooooohhhhhhh! What a pretty baby!! I can't wait to hear what you decide on for a name. He/she looks like a little doll. You'd better keep an eye on him though, he's a smarty... he acted up just so they'd call the mom he knew he was meant to be with to come rescue him!! SNEAKY SNEAKY!!

Glad he's found his forever home. How special you must be for him to have picked you. Congrats on your new baby.

I would say close to about 8 months old. (Does the pet store have any records? If it has a band then I would think they should)
Anyway around 8 months and betting a male. Males have a blck beak when they are young and around that age they will start to change color to the red/orange that you are seeing now.
