Breeding Season and Bites

Sigh... just wanted to vent.
I have read when IRN's mature sexually, it is a time of testing for them and us. If we can get through the next couple of months, they can be good pets.

My IRN was so bad when i got him a year and a half ago, we had to have a bird rescuer come in. Thank God, with alot of work, he became the darling i knew he was capable of.

All of a sudden, almost minutes after my post of petting him, he changed. He has begun to lunge at me at his feeding bowl and other weird times.

Poor thing, i see he is getting in new feathers, along with sexual maturing and it is breedidn season!

I just feel real bad, kinda like betrayed.... it is kinda like getting abused by the one you love!

We feel your pain (LOL). Its not only Ringnecks, its MOST parrots right now. My BGs are so cranked up and unpredictable, its like they've been switched during the night. They are all on a hormonal roller coaster ride. Just be very careful when handling him (or trying to handle him) and understand he really doesn't mean you harm. In fact, he'd probably like to raise a family with you!

Oh yes - we are going through the same thing in our house. Yesterday afternoon was a noisy, honk-fest between Elwood and Tinker.

Thanks for taking the time to post. As an internet user, I realize how precious time is and how we often just skim posts, thinking someone else will answer.

Your words of comfort and of commeradery (sp?) made me grateful and hopeful and not all alone....

You are right Nancy, i am watching his reactions like a hawk and not allowing him any shoulder time. Which was never an issue, but a privledge and i don't want it to be!
