Ok. My mom found a pair of handleable sweet blue IRN's. They are three years old and haven't started talking yet. They said that ringnecks usually don't start talking untill they are 10 years old. Does any one know the truth about this?

Ok. And no I would not choose a bird just bc it dosent talk. I love ringnecks, for more reasons than they talk well. I have been reading up on them for a lil while now and I have just fallen in love with them. Yes, it would be cool to have a bird that could talk but that is deffinatly not the reason I would want one

That is totally wrong!
It really will depend on the bird as to when they start to talk, but working with the bird will help. I have had some that started talking when they were weaned and others that talked a little after that. In fact, my turquoise grey Rascal, was so used to hearing Hi Little girl that he says it very well. When he was a baby, I just "knew" he was a girl so I said that everytime I passed by his cage. Imagine my surprise when he started getting the ring in! ![]() Just work with an easy phrase and repeat it in a sing songy voice every time you go by the cage or have him or her out. Eventually if they want to learn it they will start repeating it or something else they have heard you say a lot. Hello is a good one to use.

It makes no difference to me if my birds talk or not, I love them and they know me, my routine and schedule. They have very distinctive sounds for hunger, anger, warnings, mating etc. They talk in their own language to each other and understand one another and that is the inportant thing. Communication between themselves is number one on my list before having them speak in foreign human tongues.

Alas, my Tawheed is 6 and not a word. Shh... don't tell my family, they'll think i am crazy, but i think I understand about 7 words!

Hello! I have Helio, who is an Indian Ringneck, and he is 1 1/2. He is a talker, and his first phrase was "whattayadoing?" (as clear as any person I've ever heard say it) and he was 8 months old. Helio must really love his own voice as he is constantly talking, yes, I DO mean constantly. He is not a screamer, and not annoyingly loud, but you can hear him from the next room, perfectly content talking up a storm with himself. My lil' nut...
![]() However, don't lose hope. I also have a grey, that spoke for one year, 16 years ago until the couple who owned her got an amazon. She stopped speaking almost instantly. She started talking with us within hours of being in our home, lol... & hasn't really stopped since. You just never know... they talk when they are gosh darn in the mood.
