Cage size question....

I kept the cage my trouble twins came in... it's roughly 24"x24", but about 4ft tall, with a playtop. Not big enough for those 2 yahoots, but I was wondering if it could be used for an IRN? It would be in for most of the day, but my son will get home from school about 2:30 in the afternoon, and it could be out the rest of the day/evening. I don't know if they are busy bodies like conures....so is this a big enough cage? At least maybe to start with? What are the 'usual' good measurements for a single IRN, including bar spacing?

I don't trust just looking on the internet, as it says a cube of 24x24 is fine for a conure, but I know better! I think that you almost have to own one to know what they REALLY need! Since we're looking at babies, if it's not big enough, we could always start there and then go up in a few months. (I have the second half of my sign on bonus coming due about Christmas) I'd almost like to get a corner cage (to save some space) with a playtop if this one isn't big enough. He's also talking about moving into my oldest son's old room (that is if he actually STAYS moved out, lol), but it's cold downstairs, so I worry about that in the winter especially. I guess I could get one of those heaters that doesn't have any light to it, though....or maybe an electric heater that wouldn't put out any fumes or gases...but I'm getting ahead there. Cage recommendations?

A 24 x 24 is a great size for them - they will have plenty of space in their for their toys and stuff. A boing might make it a little tighter if it is big, but that is a good size for them. They can be pretty active outside the cage but inside they don't seem to be too bad. Course they are a little more streamlined than a conure so that helps a bit.
Now if you had more than one bird in the cage then yes it would need to be bigger - at least a 32 x 24.

I think that would be a great size to start with and then if you wanted to change it later you could.

Crap forgot to answer the rest of your questions... like I sais for an IRN the 24 x 24 is good as long as it has some good height to it for their tails. Bar spacing of about 3/4 inch to 1/2 inch is ideal with the 3/4 being the better choice. I think most size cages for medium birds have the 3/4 inch bar spacing.

What works for the conures will work the ringneck.

Thanks!! That's great, then. Conures are just SO active in the cage...*sigh* They aren't happy unless they are 'on the move' LOL! Nearly everytime I'm looking for them, I have to 'scan' the cage to find them!
