Hello thee Saddlebredgirl. First of all congratulations on your 6 week old baby ringie. Go to this link and see how to prepare a quick and simple meal for your baby. Packed with nutrition as well. Good luck, and BTW what colour is he/she?

Are you weaning him to a pellet diet? If so leave a low dish near him with some whole as well as crushed pellts in it. Cooked sweet potato is a biggie for enticing babies to eat solids. Very good for weight gain and feathers, as it is full of vits. and betacarotene.

I dont know if I would be feeding him solids quite yet as he is still weaning. Keep giving him the formula and feed crushed things, but not solids. I would just be nervous he wouldnt be able to eat them.

I take the finest possible ground cornmeal a.k.a. (maize- polenta-mamaliga) readily available at all grocery shops, I add some sesame seeds and/or quinoa seeds. Drop in some unprepared oatmeal not instant, it makes the mixture too sticky, some mashed banana or other grated fruit such as apple, pear, or dates or even figs (fresh) drop in chopped walnuts and almonds and peanuts, a handful of pomegrante seeds or chopped cranberries, add boiling water, and stir for not more than ONE minute. Voila, there you have it , a simple recipe, which they will gobble up. The amount in this dish feed my 13 birds adequately. Time to ring the Chow Bell. Breakfast is served. !!!
There are a few IRN owners who claim their birds gobble it up. Try it for one bird you need a small quantity, I have 14 so I make a bit more.
