need help with keet ID

Hello all, normally I just hang around the main discussion area but in a couple of weeks we are going to be rehoming a parakeet and so I thought I'd try to get some info here. The bird in question was listed as a moustached but after looking at the pic I am questioning whether it might be a Derbyan. I cannot post pics here from my blackberry but I did put one in my album if anyone cares to look. The guy is a juvenile, DNA'd male. He is around 8 months old. I found a lot of Derbyan baby pics that resemble him but I haven't found any moustached juvi pics to compare with. Any help is appreciated. Also, depending on which he is I'd appreciate any links regarding care, feeding, etc.

Ok, I see no one has posted answers for you. I am going to try. After viewing derbyans and mustached keets I came to the conclusion, I am not quite sure! So sorry. The mustached seems to have more breast color. Maybe bumping this post will cause others to look. He is beautiful though.

Here is the picture of her bird, if anyone can help.

I think Derbyans are larger, but not so sure....

Thanks guys for trying, surely someone will come along who knows. I think it would be easier to tell if he weren't still in his juvenile plumage? The green on top of the head and the bluish chest make me think he isn't a moustached but a derbyan. Then again from what I've read the mature birds coloration I so dramatically different maybe he is a young moustached. Maybe someone will know. Thanks again.

I have no clue what kind he is, but I'd just like to say he's gorgeous and congrats!

I checked these links, the sizes are very noticeable in difference:

Derbyan about 225 grams

http://www.parrotpackage.com/news.htm

Moustache parakeet weight 100 - 130 grams

Moustache Parakeets - ThePerch.net Message Boards - The Friendliest Pet Bird / Parrot Forum on the Net !

Even as a juvenile , the weight should be close to one of those.... Do you have a digital scale?

I don't actually have him here yet, it'll be probably next weekend when we pick him up so I'm just going by pics for now. There is a significant size difference and also in legnth the derbyan is a lot longer so well see I guess.

I'm putting another pic in my album of him next to a U2, maybe that will help.

Phone them and ask if they know his weight.

Here's your new pic. If that's a U2, I think you have a Derbyan there! LOL A Moustache Keet is about the size of a sun.
