Does anyone here have exotic doves?

Just wondering if anyone has any interesting breeds of doves. I have a pair of Diamond Doves that are amazing! Such cute lil guys! Just wondering if anyone keeps or breeds bleeding hearts, Elmeralds or any others because I'd love to try my hand at a different species and any suggestions would be great. :-)

I don't have any, but when I lived in California a pair lived on my front porch. They were the cutest things!! They were there every morning when I went to work and at night too. They were gone for a few weeks and when they came back they had no tail feathers!

Yours are really cute! I saw some for sale in a pet store recently and thought it might be fun someday.

It's too cute they will hoot back at me when I talk with them. Anyways for non parrot birds they are amazing and have more personality than you would think!

I have ring necks right now and I want to get diamonds. I was supposed to get some this october but my friend who breeds them didn't have a real good year breeding them. They bred them in a aviary this year and the babies would get too big for the nest and then the would leave the nest but the parents weren't smart enough to find them and feed them. So now they are going back to single cage breding. I also want bleeding hearts and emeralds they are very pretty but the bleeding hearts are $350.00 each, I only know one person who has them and they wont raise then young so you need ring necks to foster the eggs.

In the nestbox: 3 pair of keets working the box. In the Incubator: 4 dozen duck eggs and some chicken eggs. In the brooder: XL cochins. Will be breeding bourks once I get boxes and I breed keets now, tiels have boxes, but males have no intrest in female and females have no intrest in males.

That's interesting, I also wanted to get the bleeding hearts but good luck finding them in canada. I find there to be very little of these interesting birds available even though they make amazing pets! Are your ring necks hand fed? I have met some that were and they are amazing birds with lots of personality! I also love the Myna birds they are so interesting! So what kind of chickens do you breed once I move to the country(back closer to my parent's place) I will want to have a few chickens for eggs any sugestions for species? Thanks

Hello Tivona,
Pam Here, I currently have two Ring-Necks-Pied (I think) in my rescue. As these are the first doves I have ever taken in, I am learning about them as I go. I am not even sure if they are males or females, well at least one is a female, she lays eggs on a regular basis. They are beautiful, their names are Chicken & Lola? Don't ask, I did not name them, they came with those names. So, anything you may know about doves is appreciated. I have been trying different types of food as I do not even know what they eat!
Flights of Fancy!!

I have a Indian ring neck dove. His name is "Oger", because he is one! Or at least he was to one of my other doves (long gone now). He is a very good "coo-er". He lost his mate about two years ago, he is now 13 years old. We thought he would be too sad to go on without her, but he was well bonded to us and seems to be fine. He and my BCC love to "talk" to each other.

re

Mix part finch food with part parakeet food . In a seperate container place that stuff for digestion (looks like gravel eg, oyster shells). Fresh water of cours, 2 water & 2 food bowls(sometimes male will not let female eat); lets see if the are ringnecks the one with the larger beak is a male if the have the same size beak the are 2 females. Also give fresh fruits daily,eg. aple, pear, banana, whole harb-boiled egg. Finally get this special powder for egg laying birds (so if they have babies they will be healthy and the female won't get egg binded).

P.S. The female usually looks more frail than the male. Try candleing eggs. If possible change the names. How old are they? Try setting up a video recorder to record them all day or watch them as much as possible if they breed they are male and female. * Eventhough some females will breed if no male is present?
