Found a rock dove with tape on its wing.

Last night as I was walking home from the store I came across a pigeon and I noticed that it wasn't flying away when I went near it and that it was pretty tame. I picked her up and brought her home to take a closer look at her. I put her in one of my spare cages and I noticed that someone had put tape around one of her wings. (the poor thing) I didn't want to freak her out to much so I just put her in a cage with food and water and left her for the night. I am about to take the tape off her wing now and hopefully she can fly whenI do. She is soooooooo beautiful.

I really don't understand how this always happens to me, but it always seems that birds find their way to me if they need healing. I have had a dove fly right into my house that was sick. I nursed it back to health and set it free. Then another pigeon landed on my porch, it looked like it had been attacked by a cat or something. I nursed him back to health and set him free. Then 2 more pigeons, one starling that wont leave my house. I found the starling when he was a teeny weeny little baby, raised him and I tried to set him free 3 times and he always came back so he's mine for keeps. And now this other pigeon. She seems fine except for the tape on her wing. Ok I am gonna take the tape off and see if she can fly, brb.

Ok I took the tape off and I also saw that she was eating. She can fly now so I am gonna set her free in about an hour. I am worried though becuase she was someones bird I believe. she will probably fly back to her coop if she has one.

Mandy

Mandy luckliy you crossed paths with this dove :)

You were supposed to be there, now hopefully with the tape off it will fly around and find it's "coop" or join up with others of it's species I would assume.

Thanks for taking time to pick up this little fellow and find out what was wrong :)

Did the release go well? I hope the dove found her way home or to another flock of doves.

Did you ever see the movie Dr. Doolittle with Eddie Murphy. That's what this sounds like. I bet that first bird you nursed went and told other birds and now they all just come to you for help. Thanks for providing it, you're awesome!!!

Actually she/he wasn't a dove. A Rock dove is another name for Pigeon ( or so I am told by the toronto wildlife center), but yes the release went great. She flew to the top of my neighbors house and stayed there for about 20-30 min and then she flew off. Oh I hope she is doing alright.

I like that dr doolittle thing thats really cute. :)

Have a good day all.

Mandy

P.S. cfulhage the pigeon looked just like the one in your picture. They are so beautiful aren't they.
I just don't understand people who don't like pigeons or seagulls. Birds are Birds and they are all beautiful.

They normally go by city pigeons or rock doves... same thing as is a galah and a rose breasted cockatoo...
