How to keep male ringneck dove quiet at night?

Is this even possible? Our doves have had 4 clutches of babies and I want them to have a break - is that so much to ask? LOL. Our male has gone mad! cooing all day and all night. I love my doves but my mom and my brother are getting very angry as the sound travels directly to their rooms. They want me to get rid of them. He can make as much noise as he wants in the daytime but is there any way possible he can be kept quiet at night? Don't they ever sleep?? Do they ever run out of voice?

LOL Nope

My male enjoys making noise at night but most of the time i dont even notice it.

Maybe covering the cage would help.

Doves will coo day and night. When the furnace kicks on, my doves will coo. When the furnace kicks off, my doves will coo. Actually I find it very soothing and feel that nothing can possibly be wrong with the world when my doves are cooing.

I don't think covering the cage will help. But you could try wrapping some styrofoam or other insulating material around the cage after you cover it to muffle the noise. Or you could move the cage to the farthest part of the house. Or you could bring home a Mollucan cockatoo so your family would appreciate the dove's cooing.

He doesn't have a cage - he lives in a 10x10x12' indoor aviary. I put him in a box last night wondering what he could possibly have to coo at or coo about in there but ohhh, he's definitely got something to go on about even in a box!! Makes me laugh - doesn't make my mom laugh

hehe... We have an African Grey (my moms bird) but my mom refuses to believe that the Grey is louder and more obnoxious than my dove. Go figure eh? I think I'm going to actually have to cage him at nights in an area where sound doesn't travel to their rooms... if there's any such area.

Thanks for your thoughts anyways - at least now I know there's no way to keep him quiet!! I told my mom I'd find a new home for the pair and proved it by showing her the ad I placed on Kijiji but I don't intend on going through with it ;)

Some people can easiily tolerate macaw and cockatoo screams but go nuts at the beep beep beep of a little zebra finch. I'm one of them! I can't have a male zebra in my house. I guess others feel the same about doves' cooing!
