To hatch or not to hatch!
Okay. My stepmother is a really soft hearted person. The other day she told me to go to the back shedhouse to see her recent discovery and we go to the incubator(my dad raises chickens and has his own incubator for breeding). She shows me 4 tiny wildbird eggs not but the size of an acorn. White in color with brown speckles on the larger end. She told me she found them in her bird house and she keeps checking on them and the mother never came back.
Shes trying to hatch them and told me a few things she wants to do but it wasnt until she asked me and im holding back laughing hysterically at this point "what do i feed them, i cant feed them milk can I ?" Well i tell her what to go and buy (i bought a very young love bird from a bird fair and hand raised it till it could eat solid food) well sadly she comes home with a bag of young bird pellets and asked if she could crush them up. Frustrated at this point cause she says that she can hear faint peeping noises . I run to petsmart and get a small tub of Lafebers nutri-start(the same thing i used for sherbert)
My main question and ( im really sorry to drag it out, im just trying to get out as many details out there as possible) is the few days ive been going over to check on the eggs (im afraid also she will not know how to care for the babies or realises she will have a very rough couple weeks ). but the eggs have been starting to get a little darker and i started noticing the little peeping noise is actually the noise of the incubator and its more like a low buzz (which sounds like a muffle peep)
Most important the eggs have taken on a slightly darker appearance within the last few days and i was wondering does this mean they are close to hatching or does this mean the eggs have gone bad?
