posting other people's ads...

Not to start trouble or anything, but just some food for thought, ok?

IMO we should all stop and think before taking classifieds off other
boards or web sites and posting them elsewhere.
Unless you know the person (that's trying to sell or rehome the bird),
you don't know if they'd want their ads all over the internet or on boards where they don't know anyone, or where they aren't members.
Maybe they prefer to keep their ads amongst local classifieds / bird boards
or people they feel they know.

I know most people are only trying to 'help' -
both the person who needs to rehome and the bird who needs rehoming,
but it's really not anyone's place to take someone else's ad and cross post elsewhere on the internet without their permission...

I know how it is because I recently had my ad taken from certain boards and classifieds and slapped up all over the place by (I'm presuming) well-meaning people.
All it did was increase the number of international scammers and idiots emailing me constantly and trying to send me "cheques" to buy my bird.

Like I said; Just food for thought... not looking to start a controversy.

BlueMoonDancer,

I noticed that you removed this post from my ad that I had posted and instead made it a general post. I don't think that any others on this forum have done what I have done (post someone else's ad...in an attempt to help both the bird owner as well as perspective owners), so I get the feeling that this is directed at me. If you have a problem with me, I'd appreciate you PM-ing me, or posting under the topic you have a problem with (like you had done before....I don't know why you had to go "public" with this...). I understand that this post is exactly the opposite of what I just asked you to do, but hey, apples with apples, right?

I had no idea what this original post was regarding, however, now that it is cleared up let's please not make this an ugly issue. I have heard of no other complaints as far as people cross-posting ads to help other people. If this is a personal issue, let's keep it to pm's, as was suggested.
If, in fact, there is a problem with cross-posting please pm me with the issues.
Thanks!

Sorry if I offended you. I removed my post from under your ad only because I thought it was too easily misunderstood in that context; and unfortunately it was. I apologize. I didn't mean to 'target' you specifically.

Please read my post only as it was intended... as something to *think*
about.
There was no personal attack intended. You are not the person
who took my ad off the boards I had posted to and put it elsewhere,
and if it seemed like I implied that, then again, I apologize.

You are right in that cross posting other people's ads IS something
that quite a few people do. I realize cross posting is done with
the spirit of helping in mind.... I said that clearly. I'm only trying
to explain something from the original classified poster's point of view.

I won't be posting here on Birdboard again.
Too many are too interested in being confrontational and/or defensive,
no matter how nicely one tries to express their pov.

I think quite a bit might have been misunderstood???

Crossposting to help find a bird, crossposting articles, figure something out, etc should be fine unless the author of the origional post does not want the information crossposted to other places.

An ad selling or wanting birds should only be crossposted if the person(s) is fine with the idea, such as a friend looking for specific bird(s) and needs help. However, if it may be an ordinary 'for sale' type of thing, then maybe that person who wants to crosspost should get permission to do so first. CACPioneer only wanted to show people of a situation that might be good for someone, whether or not they had the 'right' to post the information. Otherwise, I'm sure that if that was not intended then CACPioneer might be posting all the birds for sale adds that they come upon here on Birdboard.

Point being, it's much harder to express feelings and ideas in words typed rather than spoken, and I'm sure no one meant any harm, even you, by what had happened. In the future though, it may be best for someone to get permission to crosspost an ad before they actually post the information.
