Name of "Reptile Board"

I was just chaecking Birdboards latest "Sister site' Reptile Board, And I thought That since it apparently also includes amphibians a more fitting name would be "Herpboard".

The word herp, (I think it's latin) is often used to encompas both Reptiles and amphibian, and it kind of just sounds better.
I would have posted this on the other site, but all of the other posts I saw were spam, and I guessed that there would be almost no one on there that would actually read this.

P.S. admins and/or moderators, please move or delete this if it should not be posted on Birdboard

wait, we have a reptile site too!!?? Woo hooo!

Actually, herp is short for herptology, the branch of zoology dealing with reptiles and amphibians. I love herps and currently have a water dragon. Of course my wish list is forever growing, but realistically, I'm done if you factor in all the other critters I care for.

Hi,

I tried to find out what state you are in, but your profile didnt show me. Do you know of anyone that could give a good home to a Iguana? We have given him a good home with a 5 foot x 5 foot x 8 foot cage, but he hates our dogs, so he doesnt get much human interaction and I just feel he is not happy. He is about 1 1/2 yrs old. Let me know if you know of anyone. Thanks from Florida.

Thank you for this - I will ask my sources and have sent you an email as well.

I must say, now reading my prior post, I feel like a heel for not spelling herpetology correctly! Oh webmasters, can you fix my err? :)

i think herpboard would be more appropriate, and sounds way cooler. People who have herps or are interested in herptofauna will know what definately know what it is. Plus I'm sure the makers of the site have keywords so people can find it regardless if they search for herp or reptile or amphibian.

I agree I had never heard of a reptile as a herp and it just would not have as many hits from a search engine. However the webmaster could add herp to the key words that are hidden in the html of a web site. That would of course be up to them..

I don't know what the exact english translation of herp is, but herpetology is a combination of two latin phrases. the ology part of the word comes from the latin word "logos" meaning "to study" or "the study of" just like geology is a combination of logos and "geo" (meaning earth) and biology is logos combined with "Bios" meaning life.
