Creating a new Thread and Posting Replies

When you go to post a new thread, please be sure that you are posting in the correct section. If you are new to the forum you can post an introductory in the "Introduce Yourself" forum. Similarly, if you'd like to chat with other avian enthusiasts about specific species, you can choose one of the forums in the "Specific Bird" section of BirdBoard. Some forums have sub-forums, such as the "DIY" (Do-It-Yourself) forum, which contains sub-forums on Homemade Toys, Recipes & More. It is required that all off-topic discussion be confined to "The Lounge". Otherwise, most sections of the forums are quite self explanatory.

Once you have chosen the correct category for your topic, there will be a button above the threads which reads .

Clicking on "New Thread" will take you to a new page where you can fill in details.

The first small box labelled as "Title" is for the topic of your discussion or query. The next box below is for your message. To the right of the large box are various smilies you can use to express yourself, feelings, ideas, etc. Below the large box, there's an area that says "Post Icons". You can only choose one (if you'd like), which will be displayed next to the thread once it has been submited.

As far as the extra options for the message box itself, you can hover the mouse over each small button to see what it does... such as if you were to hover the mouse over the "B", it would say "Bold". Similarly, you could hover the mouse over the large "A" with a black line underneath, and it will say "Colors" which can be used to color your text. If you hover your mouse over each button, well they are quite self explanatory.

Once satisfied with your post, you can choose to "Preview Post" which will take you to a page that will show you how your post will look. Then just click "Submit New Thread" or you can skip using the "Preview Post" and just click on "Submit New Thread". Both options are found under the Icons as shown above.

If you would like to reply to a thread, you can either use the Quick Reply method, or press either "Go Advanced" or "Post Reply". "Go Advanced" and "Post Reply" take you to the same page which appears similar to the new thread box above with all the extra options that can be put into a post or modifications made to the text.

A quick reply is used if you don't need or want the additional options such as smilies, posting a photo via "Additional Options", or all the font options (Bold, Italic, Underline, Colored Text, Hyperlinks, etc).

Once you have completed your reply, you will need to click on "Post Quick Reply" while doing a 'Quick Reply', or "Submit Reply" under 'Go Advanced'.
