2 picture problems

I hope someone can help! First, I tried to upload a picture in photo album, and it keeps telling me "This is not a valid image file." It's a bmp file, so maybe I can't upload bmps to the photo album?

Next, I see some people post pictures in their posts or threads. I tried, and instead of posting a picture, it posted a link to a picture. Again, this is a bmp picture, and it's the only copy I have. You can see what I mean here Can someone explain how I can get a picture in the post instead of a link?

I read these instructions (Posting Photos) but I still figure it out.

Ok, I'm no whiz at this stuff, but all I know is that I save my photos to photobucket, then paste the image code in the same place as where I type my post. When I hit "submit thread" it puts the image in, rather than the link mumbo jumbo.
