Ginsu the Toucan
I had a few request for pictures of her...here's what I have so far, I'll definitely take more pictures....
I'm going to try and get a video of her flying & "talking/yelping"

awww, you have a little swainson's!! i SOO want a swainsons, and a g. aracaris :D is this the one you rescued? was she on a bad diet? her bill looks dis-colored :( is she tame at all? i LOVE the swainsons we have at the zoo, she is precious :)

Yes, this is the one that was living in the back of someones garage with about 20 rabbits. She calms down quickly once you have her out. We named her ginsu because her beak is serated.
Her beak was chipped & pealing when we got her, it's getting better...she is definitely happy... I'll take some better pictures of her next week when I'm off.

ivy and i just adore ginsu! i can't believe someone had her in their garage, how horrible.
i love her cage too, that is something like what i would like ivy to have some day. did you make that? it is beautiful! i am completely unfamiliar with toucans. do they play with toys a lot?

toucans do play with toys! any bird will actually. ive got a hornbill that rumages through our toy bins and picks stuff out, then she carries them to the top of her cage and plays wtih them for a little while...then she drops them on the floor, haha. she will fly down to the bed to check everything out, then she hops down to the floor and hops about looking for stuff to get into. they are just as curious and playful as parrots :)

Even finches and canaries will play with toys!

Oh she loves to play. She hops all over the place and flys from side to side and sometimes hops on the hoops. She sleeps on the perch that's attached to the door. This morning I had to give her a tap to get her to move so I could put her food in. The look she gave me was priceless.
The Swainson toucans aka chestnut mandible toucan have a two tone beak. We had a rescued wild caught male that we donated to the Pittsburgh Zoo. He would fly and poop at the same time...needless to say soft scrub worked on getting blueberry stains off the wall and carpet. Here's a picture of the male we had...notice the blue feet
