Smile Newest additions to our flock

Hi, Just got in to the new and improved website....looking good, by the way...just thought I'd jump right in and show off our newest additions to our family.
Bonnie and Clyde
They are Guyana Toucanets
Bonnie is 9 months old and Clyde is 4 months old.

They are inside for now, but in the spring they will be moving outside. We had a custom cage made for them and when it's breeding time we will have another cage made and a palm tree for them to nest in. We are going to try to breed them, though it is up to them ;). I (we) are enjoying them very much, they are very beautiful and active. They only make small noises and do not "talk" like parotts, but they do talk to us in their own way. They seem to be doing very well and are eating lots of Papaya and blueberries! If anyone has any experience and would like to share I would appreciate it.

anyway, here they are: Bonnie and Clyde
ok, well, I can't get my pictures on here, it says they are too large. I did post them in my pictures last night, though if you want to check them out.....
kathy

I think those 2 are so pretty.....I seen them in the Members Pics section a few days ago and wanted to comment on them.....always been fascinated by Toucans.....There was a guy (Caleb I think) on here quite a while back that kept them and I used to love seeing his pics and hearing about them.........Awesome!

Keep trying on the pictures, I would love to see them. I don't know too much about toucans, Yet...I only know these.. we feed them the low iron (very important) pellets, with paypaya and blue berries ( we buy frozen blueberries and thaw out some each day). We also add in other fruits. They have a dish of water as well....sounds like what you are doing. We had a cage made for them, I do not know the dimensions, but we also have lots of branches for them to jump on. They LOVE to jump. This spring we will be putting them outside and are making the plans now for where and how they will go...the plan is for them to breed.....they seem to like each other alot so maybe we'll be lucky. I am enjoying them so much, they are very friendly. But watch out for your walls, they also love to throw their food.. :aiwebs_01

LOL Silly toucans! I remember seeing one (well, actually up to two) in a bird store and they had this particular one (keel billed) on a stand near the door. He looked like he was flighted so I was a bit afraid to walk in, though after my mother and I had walked into the store, we were looking around. My mother ended up standing infront of his cage and so he decided he wanted back in, jumped off his gym, hopped around the store, then went to his cage. He couldn't get in so he pecked at my mothers foot, hopped off, and once she had moved, he hopped right into his cage! LOL it was just too cute!

Toucans are quite fascinating birds! Even the toucanetts!

I had plexie glass at the walls it made it soooooooo much easer to clean and the other one the guy put up bat tub panneling it makes it sooooo much easer to clean because like you said look out walls they sure can fling that bill with it full of fruit lol I think that is why so many of them end up in barns and sheds I have had eggs twice the first ones both ended up being broken and the next time there was only 1 egg and it was a dud well I will get more they say you have to pull them right away or the male will kill the baby I can not wait to hand feed one of them they do not have a crop like all the other baby's I raise so it will be different there food goes right to the belly so you have to be carefull and as you fill the bill you have to wait for them to take it down but I am sure I will learn they say there is nothing ugler then a toucan baby lol but I have never seen an ugly baby sure they may look like something only a mother could love maybe that is why they all call me mama lol Babyblue
