Toucan Breeders

After much research I have found a medium sized breeder in California who cares about his birds and seems very knowledgeable, Chris Estep's Aviary called Toucan Jungle.
I have recently put a deposit on a Keel Billed Toucan egg. Even with Toucan Jungle's competitive price, Toucan's are very expensive so I wanted to see the Aviary where the bird will come from. So I flew to California and found myself impressed with Chris Estep's Aviary. He is very knowledgeable and easy to talk with. For those that are interested I took my video camera when I went and posted a video of Chris's Aviary on YouTube

I would feel free to call Chris with any questions you might have about your Keel Billed toucan. Very few people know these birds and I would recommend talking directly with a breeder. They are very hard to come by and to this date I am still waiting on an egg. It is very common to put a deposit on a Toucan egg months before it is even laid!

Quite a set up he has! I love his great big flights for the birds, lots of space for them.

The Toucans I've seen as pets are fun and sociable. Please show us photos of your bird when you get him home!

So, this is nice because of the space but their environment is almsot completely barren - no browse or plants or anything to investigate or chew. There are one or two branches and a box. What the heck do those Hyacinths chew on? They have the strongest beak in the world...

Also, those toucans want the people to go away. Are they ever "successful" in raising chicks? Without one or two successess on their part they will live their lives feeling like humans are predators of their young and they can never raise anthing and considering that is all they have to do there, I wonder how well off they really are?
