Here's a couple of pictures of a toy I had made a while back.

Take an emply plastic container. Drill holes in the sides. String rope through the holes and tie on toys to the inside and outside of the container. Put the lid on the toy. Tape it shut. You can either hang it or I now have to screw it to the side of the cage. One Rico demolishes the toys on the outside, he then has to get through the tape and lid to get to the toys and almonds waiting for him on the inside. He loves this toy. In these photos I have it hanging from a plastic chain. That didn't last too long, he ate right through it. That is why I now screw it to the side of the cage.

Jane, here's a photo of a toy I make. I have one particular grey that loves it! Stuff the inside of the ball full of all kinds of stuff. Once they eat everything off the outside they destroy the plastic ball to get to the inside.
Go to your dollar store and buy the balls. Go to a craft store and look for all kinds of wooden pieces and wrap them in construction paper and string them all over the ball.

Amanda, I didn't make this but I bought it from Dr.s Foster and Smith to try it. It worked for awhile, but too much work for too little of time.

1-Murray's - he loves it but he took it apart in no time and often found it at the bottom of the cage.

2-Rico's - he figured out how to take the thing apart too. You have to unscrew these and clean them. That's the pain part. But both birds love em.

When walking the dogs, I found a brilliant twisty white branch. I took it home for my lori. It was a very long branch and I thought it'd be good for my lori to climb and exercise, as she has clipped wings. I tied it to the cage- it's TWICE as tall! Then I hung toys, native flowers, bells and her favorite stuffed lori toy to it and voila! A cheap, quick, easy and effective jym!

Great website and I love the idea of the treats in cones strung together.

Another place you can get stuff for your toy making is Childrens thrift stores,
buy baby rattles to attach to your toys.

The paper cup-nutriberry toy is a great idea! I make something similar for my BHC using nutriberries and tissue paper; I twist the nutriberry up in squares of tissue paper, sort of like a wrapped hard candy, and then put them around the cage for her to pick up. Sometimes she goes for them, sometimes not. Stringing them together and hanging them like that is great, though, I think I'll try it for the weekend!
