I've used chola cactus for years without problems ... mostly for my smaller birds. It might be good for Ajax since it has the holes in it so it's easier to grip.

Cholla is used for perches all the time - see Bird & Parrot Perches Natural Branch CHOLLA PERCH for an example. My birds have several cholla perches and enjoy them.

I have cholla growing all over my yard, but I've never been able to find out what you have to do to turn it into perches. Just waiting for the cactus flesh to fall off a dead branch doesn't work, because the remaining wood is very brittle at that point. Cholla isn't the nastiest cactus in the desert, but it looks like it would be very difficult to remove the flesh from a fresh branch.

ive been seeing this type of perch alot lately...how do you think it could stand up to a med-sized bird's beak? my breeders are always shredding their perches, i would like something that is more sturdy for them. we have been looking for manzanita, but so far in the local shops they only either have canary and finch sized perches, or large macaw perches

birdsnreps,
i think your med parrots would destroy it as i read it's a softer type wood

maybe u have to order the manzanita branches online

sometimes u have to get it off online shops unfortuantely
:(
