Go to any craft store and ask the clerks for pony beads, they will take you right to them
They are colored hard acrylic plastic beads with large holes. They are not generally suitable for our medium to large birds beaks, because they are to easily swallowed, and too easily broken by most. Since though, they would be unaccessable within the tubing(unless it's a macaw or large Too), they would provide a more stable tube, and with something like an 8-guage wire inside that, the whole toy would remain intact.
It would be eye candy for the birds, and we all know a bird that is occupied is a happy one! The changing colors from bead to bead as well as other toys hanging from the hoops would probably make it a great place for hanging out!

We used a hoola hoop and X pvc fittings. Cut the 2 hoops in half and fit them together. We then wrapped it with sisal twine. It works great. We used hot glue to hold everything and so far no problems. here is a pic of it :)

Here are a few others my hubby has made

Was going to use sisal to cover a gym I made/designed (simple, and strong enough) but then realised, that even with just under 100' of sisal rope, it wouldn't cover all the perching areas, like you've done with the PVC perches and hoopballs... think I may try vetwrap if I can get some of that instead!

Good ideas though for all that stuff!
