i rip strips of newspaper and stick them inside places on shadows cage. he always seems to have more fun with the strips of newspaper then the expensive toys. there was one toy i got at petsmart not tooo long ago. it had all colored wood blocks wrapped in paper and then drilled through both and strung. kind of hard to explain but picture the wood blocks wrapped up like a little piece of candy and then drilled down the middle. he loved that toy a lot, so of course it didnt last too long

They have special holders you can buy to hang adding machine paper rolls in their cage or you can of course make your own. We made a toy for the budgies that love paper out of a childs puzzle the ones that have the cardboard type pieces. Anyway we hang them on ropes with softer wood like popsicle sticks or wooden spoons and the paper chewers seem to love them. Also you can do a foraging type toy with either a small paper sack or paper. Place a small amount of seeds, pellets, or nuts inside the sack or paper and roll it up. Then hang from a rope or even just place in the cage and the birds should have a great time chewing up the paper and getting the treats inside.

I didn't think about the phone book being too big. Whiteboy's cage is BIG, and the phone book only lasted about 2 days anyway for him. Hey, maybe you could hang one on the outside of the cage.

When I was reading up on new ideas on foraging I came across paper drinking cups, Well I had mini paper cups here at home from the dollar store. My one tiel spends about an hour a day just playing with a cup, tipping it, chewing it, dropping it. for some reason he just loves the sound of it and the texture, and well I don't know what else he sees in it. ha ha. likes sticking his head in it as well. I got to make sure that his head does not get stuck since they are mini cups. ha ha. what a picture that would be. ha ha. you may be able to poke a hole in the bottome of it and tie a not and hang that from the cage.
we give ours the envelopes from our bills also, twigs from cherry and apple trees, and natural burlap, we stuff it with seed's and other stuff. just some idea's |

Adding machine tape and JUNK MAIL- not the plastic windows or envelopes with glue but all the rest! Fiona shreds it all and the tiels like it also. I take the adding machine tape and weave it though several bars of the cage. There is also braided raffia that you can buy that they like to shred also. It took them 2 months to try that though.

My guys love shredding the adding machine paper. I just use the chain from another toy that has been chewed. Put the adding maching tape on it and loop the chain through the top or side of the cage close it and you have an inexpensive paper holder. They also love to shredd muffin/cupcake baking cups.
