Question Help with Shamrock toys PLEASE....

In the past few days.. he has discovered they joy of chew his wood toys...

Daily having to clean cage bottom SEVERAL times.. looks like he has wood bedding in his cage...

Are Alexandrine ringnecks part beaver???

The toys I bought him less than two weeks ago.. there are a few parts of wood pieces on them still..

Have discovered today he has BROKEN one of the large marbella rings and cracked one of the marbella balls just slightly smaller than a golf ball..

Gave him 4 oldfashion cloths pins and 6 popcycle sticks... to distract him.. while I took apart the toys and removed cracked and broken plastic/marbella pieces and restring... into ONE toy.....

By the time I was done.. the clothspins and popcycle sticks were splintered history.....

He has not paid much attention to the pinata.. but is concentrating on the wood.....

I have teil size toys.. somewhat figured out.. but THIS.....

Put together a toy out of pieces of wood and stuff had for making tiel toys (that they never cared for because wood pieces and long bagel tubes they did not care for)... he is working back and forth between the restrung toy and the one I put together right now... I will be lucky if both of them last till dark tomorrow the way he is going..

I tried looking at toys on line.. to get some ideas... but think I am just getting more confused...

I need advise on toys for this green feathered beaver....

Help PLEASE...

If only my tiels would do that.....*sigh* I wish they would atleast go through a toy in a month but not even that. They have an untouched toy that I bought them and they have not even scrapped it.

I am use to the small beak of a tiel.. and Freyja is a shred a holick like you would not believe..
She goes thru 2-4 toys a week...seems like I am constantly making shred toys or restringing for her..
She would be in heaven with Shamrocks pinata.. but does not chew wood much...

The toys that Shamrock has basically distroyed.. are these..

And I was only able to put together one toy out of what was left wood/rope or not broken plastic/marbella out of them..

Link not working.... can't copy links like that.... pain in the butt....

Yeah, alexes are "beavers"! The alex I know, most his toys are from Noel... but because he so easily destroys them and is on bad diet he plucks himself.... poor guy!

Your best bet is to look into conure to amazon (too? grey?) sized toys, and see if you can replicate any of them yourself!

You might want to try bottlebrush. I don't have the link handy, but Google "Wayne" and "bottlebrush" and it will come up. I bought a whole bunch of toys from Wayne and they were kind of pricey, but they're holding up really well. The bottlebrush wood has a wonderfully chewy outer bark but is very durable underneath the bark.

Other suggestions would be to gather clean pine cones and bake them to destroy bugs/bacteria and offer those for shredding. Try clean, pesticide-free, fruit tree branches for peeling and shredding.

By the way...I sent you a PM offering you one of my spare cages...did you receive it? I have two big cages that I'm not using and it would do me good to have the temptation to fill them removed LOL. Let me know.

Julie

Zoey and Sophie both are super shredders. For Sophie I had to size up her toys. Which is why I made that monstrosity for her.

I can see now Jim... that I am going to be searching thru all your threads.. to toy stuff ideas now...

As soon as I get everyone settled with breakfast and water changes here.. can see will be going out in yard with the large pruning saw.. and cuttin large branchs or small trees down of several kinds of woods that are bird safe on property..

Been harvesting most of the wood for perchs.. and will now be doing so for the green feathered beaver...

The woods I plan on cutting today... hickory, dogwood, sweet gum, sassafrass and cutting some grapevine also to clean and weave into wreaths...
so looks like this afternoon will be devoted to soaking, scrubbing wood and put what will fit in oven to dry.... and maybe a wreath or two....

I also have a couple of the boards of the untreated lumber left over from building the orchid house/area last winter so will be drilling, cutting and soaking them, with GSE also.. before baking to dry..
and just might even getting out my vitta critter dyes and doing some dyeing also...
And tomorrow more cutting into toys size pieces and drilling... yipee

I have over 20 feet of bird safe sasil.. and ordered misc bag of scrap different sizes of veggie leather pieces recently (for some unknow reason)... so looks like I just might be OK for a bit here.. with all the toys ideas people have provided....

Thank you all...
I just got so overwhelmed with the wood distruction.. I did not know where to start..

Will post pics.. as toys are made..
then let you know how long each manages to last in Shamrocks cage...
