Use of Imitation Leather in Bird Toys

Just one question - how safe is 'imitation' leather as compared to the real thing. I feel that since it is a synthetic product (we do use plastic toys & beads for our parrots ) it should not harbour as much bacteria as real leather or rawhide which are animal products.

Can anyone throw any light on this ???

I have never seen "imitation" leather in a bird toy or any that i ever sold in my shop so I gues I would be interested to see one and know this too.

I guess if there aren't any chemicals that were used in making the product... I wouldn't use it because I don't know a lot about what they can and can't use, so I don't use certain products until I get the okay from you guys... But I agree, it would be interesting to know!

I would never use anything imitation in making bird toys/bird related products, better safe than sorry plus i'd have the constant worry about it.

Have to agree that it's not safe. Not only is there a problem with the glue used but also the type of dye used. I would stick with vegetable dyed leather. There are several places you can find it reasonably priced and considering how long it lasts most birds it really isn't expensive in the long run.
