Made a few toys and a rope perch!

Here are a couple toys I made for Monty and of course I had to make a new one for the babies! Monty likes the foraging toy but hasn't touched the other one yet. I know it looks boring and bare but the only thing he likes to do is untie knots in leather and take off the beads and chew on wood so it's simple...he's not too complex, lol. The babies toy on the other hand fits them perfectly...it's chaotic! It's attackable, preenable, chewable, destructable and they can hang from it, all their favorite things and they love it so far! Ellie and Bugsy are in the pic too, it was bedtime so they were a bit annoyed

I also experimented with making a rope perch and it turned out great! I love it, Monty really loves it, and it was so easy. It's a bad pic, taken with my cell phone.

Question Where'd you get the foraging cups?

I love the foraging toy that you made, where did you find the cups for that?

I got all the parts for the foraging toy at the dollar store in the toy section. The funnel cups are part of some game but there were 16 in the game and they are perfect. The top cups are part of a baby toy. There was a plastic elephant, bus and train that had different shapes cut out of them and then it has the plastic shapes to put in there. I just took the shapes, put a hole in them (carefully) and turned them upside down. They just happened to fit perfectly in the cups, lol. I was worried about Monty destroying the tops cuz the plastic seemed a little thin but he's totally attacked the green one and has barely put a dent in it. It's his favorite toy, he digs out his seeds, chews on the cups and then unties all the knots and takes it apart, lol.

The perch was easy. It took me about 5 minutes to make it. I was worried about the glue melting in the wash but I've washed it and put it in the dryer and it held up great.

I bought plastic chair tips that you put on the legs of chairs at the hardware store. It was $1.79 for 4 of them. I used 1/2" rope so I got the 1/2" tips. Then I used a nail and put a hole in the end of the tips and cut a length of poly rope about 8". Folded that in half and tied a knot in the U part of the rope. Put the ends through the holes and pulled it tight, the knot makes sure it won't come out.
I wrapped some masking tape around the rope where I wanted to cut it and cut the rope. LEAVE THE TAPE ON!! If it starts to unravel it is really hard to get into the tips. I used hot glue and put about a quarter size amount in the bottom of the tip and then put a couple rings around the inside of the tip and stuck the end of the rope in as far as I could get it. I held onto it for a couple minutes to make sure it wouldn't move and then let it sit until it was cool.
After that I just tied it onto the cage. The nice thing about the poly rope is that it holds a knot really well but at the same time it's not too hard to untie.

Here is a great site for rope (toy parts too): Parrot Toys and Toy Parts
They only charge actual shipping and there is no minimum order.
