Safe material for 'tiel's toys

Hi everyone
I'm the new owner of a cute little cockatiel Aku and I want to make him toys. So far I've make him food colored matches toys and he loves them and destroyed them very quickly so I'm searching for new ideas.
Is cardbord safe for him? I mean boxes cardboard, doesn't it contain too much glue in it?
If anyone have some ideas for other material I could use. Plastic and bough toys don't interess him at all!
Thanx!
Agnes

I just made a toy for my tiels and they love it. I bought a 100% cotton, unbleached mop head at the store and took it apart to use the strings. I then took some plastic chain and tied some of the strings to it and put some cut drinking straws on the strings. It is the first toy I have ever made or bought that everyone plays with. They even started fighting over it so I made another one.
I also take a piece of black and white newspaper and fold it like a fan and hang it in the cage for their destroying pleasure, lol. My birds love straw hats and you can get them at the craft store for around $1, just be sure to check it for loose strings.
If you do a internet search on making your own bird toys there are a lot of sites out there that have great ideas also.

Seagrass Bowls, Maize Mats, Loofah, Bamboo Shredders, Rolled Paper Sticks

My tiels love things along these lines.... shreddables!
