need some help with foraging toys

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am thinking about making some foraging toys to sell for not only budgies, but other bigger birds as well. Birds & Ways has hundreds of toys to make;however, they don't have any pictures to show what they will look like. There are a few books on this;however, they are so expensive. Do any of you have instructions (pictures would be helpful, too) for these kinds of toys?

Thanks

I have a couple foraging toys, one that is griffins fav's is a simple small bird cage filled with shredded paper, then I stick stuff inside the middle of the paper so he has a preening and foraging toy all in one. I also saw a few toy suggestions about using small untreated wicker balls from the craft store and then stashing stuff in those. You can also use coin wrappers to stick treats in the middle and twist up the ends. Those are the cheap ideas I've found so far.

Foraging toys are just one option. You can fill a bowl with pasta uncooked and or wood blocks and a few treats, you can save cardboard boxes from small cereal boxes and shove stuff in. Birds have to learn this so let them see you put the stuff in. Make the first few times easy so they build up to the more challenging things. Foraging can be simply multiple bowls around the cage, putting shredded paper on top of the food, etc...

There's a great blog about captive foraging called "Captive Foraging for Parrots": Captive Foraging for Parrots . The posts often have instructions on how to make your own toys (with pictures).

Hope that helps.
