Parrot Training

If anyone is interested in my training experience I wrote a review of it with my conure. It's a review of a product I found that works extremely well. Let me know if it helps or if you have any questions!

It's Chet Womach's DVD. No comment.

Chet Womach is very good at web marketing. He has at least half a dozen different blogs that I've seen, most disguised as sites operated by happy customers. He promotes his sites by peppering links to them across the web, which also helps his search engine rankings. I'm not saying this is or isn't one of his sites (though the writing style is awfully similar), but I really do wish there were more competition in the parrot training space... it seems like all the search engine results for "parrot training" (or related terms) somehow lead back to his site. (Like I said, he's a good web marketer)

I don't doubt he may be good at training birds, but what bothers me most is how he plays along with words.... such as that mentioned by jenseits, I watched one of his ads... talking about barreling over cliffs, swimming with sharks, and going to an underground bunker. They may it sound more dangerous than it really was considering that one, they were in a helicopter, and two, they were swimming with sharks that are not KNOWN for attacking humans, even less so when there is no food involved.... and that was all to sell you his new DVD.

He certainly has great marketing techniques, however I'd rather prefer something that sounds more honest... like I said though, I'm not doubting his parrot training techniques, just that I don't like his marketing strategies...

Marketing is one thing (I'M an online marketer), but that particular video really stretched the bounds even for me. He took some footage of himself on an exotic scuba diving vacation and positioned it as part of a campaign to save abused birds. LOL

But has anyone on this board used any training DVDs? I've read mixed reviews of Womach's method but as far as I can tell he's just using clicker training. I recently joined the Yahoo Bird Clicker Training group and they have a ton of detailed info. I'm thinking about starting clicker training with Stewie just to keep him from getting bored (now that he's settled in). Any other ideas I should consider?

It really did seem too much.. sometimes though I wonder if some of those testimonials are just "repeats" with different names and species... as sometimes it seems... or even some made up...

I do have a piece of one of Chets DVD's however I wasn't impressed... and it was only a small section dealing on how to get a parrot to lay on their back.... so I can't say that I can judge it all... not only that but it's the only training course for parrots that I've seen (instead of read).

As far as clicker training, other than the bird learning to click itself, I've heard it's a great training course, even for the untame parrots! I've thought about it myself, too, but haven't gotten into it as of it...

I really dont care how the guy markets so long as he makes a good product. I certainly understand that it might not be something that works for everyone but I have had a lot of success with it. I dont want to create any anger around here :-(

Some people love it, others could care less. I haven't really seen the full training course so I can't really judge that as a whole.. If it works, fantastic! If not, maybe it's not the thing for you...

I at least enjoy being able to hear a testimonial that I know is true!

I know Chet has a blog at birdtricks.com/blog but I haven't seen any of his others. I'd be interested in reading them. I did find a couple other options in the parrot training but Chets looked the best to me. Here are two others I found.

The 'Bird Lady' Parrot Training System!
Parrot Taming & Training

Any experience with these or how they stack up?

I know this is an article written by Chet and he doesn't seem that popular around here but it's another training method to consider other than or in accordance with clicker training?
