Question My new Budgie looks sad...

Hi, everyone! I am a new Budgie owner - I got him last sunday so... a little over a week. I've tried to just leave him alone so far to let him get used to his new home. I have sat beside the cage and talked to him alot, but have not tried to handle him at all. He just sits there. It took him days before he ever ate anything, but thankfully he is eating now. When he moves to a certain spot, say, his feed cup, he just sits there until I move his cage or something startles him. I had a budgie when I was a kid but I don't remember her being this shy. I know it can take a while before they warm up to you, but I want to make sure he isn't sick. He just looks so unhappy. Also, it's beginning to get a little cold in the house at night... we havn't turned our heat on. How cold is too cold for a budgie??
Thanks, all!!

Bethany

If your budgie was in a warm environment before you bought him he may be cold.Look for fluffed feathers.Drafts are much worse than cold but since he's new it could be general stress from so many changes.Every bird is different, some move in without missing a beat and some take months to feel at home.If you are very worried you should call an avian vet and inquire about an exam.

I would recommend a trip to the vet for a wellness exam, even if you aren't particularly concerned about them being sick. Has he improved?

How's your budgie? has he settled in and responding to you? I hope all is well..please let us know if you were able to take him for a visit to the vet to ensure that he is okay.
