I've been thinking of training Jerry to fly to me, using a treat (such as millet) to bribe him over. I've tried it a few times and it worked a couple of times and didn't work a couple of times but I admit that I haven't been very consistent in training for this. But that would be my suggestion, use a treat to entice him to come over to you and every time use the same word or phrase.

The is a great article in this month Bird Talk Mag. that was on that every subject.

If you don't have a subscription already; you can pick up a copy at a pet store or most large chain books stores.

I love Bird Talk Mag. I highly recommend it. There are magazine subscription sites on the web that have it for $13.99 a year. Great bargain

I think I skimmed over that article but must have missed the flying training. Most of the things in that Bird Talk article were on basic taming skills which we've already mastered. Jerry does fly to me occassionally, but only on his terms When he flies to me he likes to land on my head (sometimes missing and landing on my face instead ).

It's the May issue. And the title of the article is "Why YOU SHOULD Flight Train"

Is the May issue the purple one with the cockatoo on the front? That is the latest one I've received. I probably just missed the article, I'll check tonight. Thanks!

No it is not purple but there is a tiel on the front. On the cover, which is white, are other articles such Hot Birds Names,Amazon Stuies, Cockatiels what to shop for and Diseases to watch for and the Flight Train title is also on the cover.

Hope it helps, one of the things in the article is books and trainer sites she references.

ya same with punkh...he comes to me but only when he wants to. i dont get bird talk. i was looking into it but even with the cheapest deal...i would end up having to pay abt $40+ for it. I saw the the bargain price when i bought a copy from my local chapters (its kinda like barnes and noble) but at the bottom it says add i think around $20 for canadians plus shipping...and i will most likely be charged taxes at the border as well (not sure) so kinda gave up.

though if any of the canadians out here know of a way to get around this i would love to hear it. i looked at the rogers magazines and i have a rbc visa and they give deals on magazines but bird talk isnt one of them:(

anyway for the training...do i just call out his name when i want him to come? do i point to my shoulder or maybe take out my finger for him to perch on? when he does fly to me its when hes hyper and he always tends to land on my head...ive 'talked' to him abt it but he hasnt stoped so not sure what to do abt that either

When I've tried to get Jerry to fly to me using millet as a bribe, I would extend my arm and say "come here Jerr, fly to me." On the two occassions that he has done this, he landed on the piece of millet spray, which was of course not very stable, but then he fluttered to my hand/arm once he realized this. Jerry likes my head as a landing pad too, but I don't mind. He hasn't pooped on it yet but I don't put it past him After a couple of minutes of riding around on my head I usually have him step onto my finger.
