In the Winged Wisdom section of the Birds n Ways website there is a great article on how to potty train your bird.We trained Cheddarhead with these methods and it was well worth the effort.

I tried potty training my lorikeet, but it's hard cause they have liquid poop and they do it every ten minutes or so. Mine knows what "go potty" means- but doesn't know that she's not supposed to do it on my shoulder when we're out shopping. o_o

How cool! Conures seem to be so smart. I had heard they learn to go to the toilet in a specific plac easily, so it's good to have it confirmed.

Sorry to talk about poop, but I'm curious to know if conures have a fairly liquid poop or a more seedy poop like a lovebird? I just want to know how messy things will get if I ever get my dream of owning a conure (or a conure owning me as the case may be).

how funny!!!!!
I try to do that in the morning at least. I hold them over the sink or the trash and most of the time they will go . The rest of the day I am out of luck.

That would worry me a little. That doesn't sound like it's good, health wise.

from the Avian Health Network (Avian Health Network: AHN Happenings):

...chronic straining can weaken the integrity of the cloaca and lead to loosening of the vent, expansion of the tissue of the cloaca and even finally eversion prolapse of the tissue of the cloaca out past the vent.

Funny, I never noticed until this morning. Sometimes it takes me awhile to put 2 and 2 together LOL. But if Max is on my shoulder.. esp in the morning, and I have to go potty, there is always a mess on the side of the floor from her by the toilet. I think I will try the praises and scritches every morning and see what happens.

And Max was named before we knew he was really a she, and she knows her name so too late to change it. Max is a Maxine LOL.
