Need help with my hissy lovebird

Hello, I originally posted this on Bird Board Discussion, but am wondering if I can get some input from here also.

I have a 5-month old lovebird. He is hand tamed and likes to follow me everywhere I go. Apparently he likes me, but when I try to touch him, he hisses and lunges out at my fingers...He likes to bite my fingers. He just bites me when he is not in the mood for being touched. He is not hand shy, and love to get a head rub and eats from my hands. I don't know why he is so hissy all the time with no apparent reason.
How can I help him to be more calm and not bite my fingers?

Thanks for reading.

My lovebird has the same way of telling me when it is all right to touch him. But, truth be told aside from a scritch here and there, there really isn't a reason to touch my bird when he doesn't want it.

So, unlike Chet...I don't think it is a problem at all.

Since he eats from your hand when offered, allows a head rub, and will perch and hang out with you. What is the "problem"?

Respect your lovebird's space when he wants it. He's not being a "bad" bird...just being a bird. Respect that and you will find your buddy will appreciate it.

I have no problem with giving a bird space if they're obviously not in the mood to be touched. You and I have those days too. But she asked specificall how to stop the biting and lunging and that's what I provided.

Has your bird been surgically sexed or DNA tested? Are you sure he is in fact a he? Female lovebirds can be a hissy pain in the you-know-what very often, lol.
