You can teach a bird to come to you on command, and you can use the bird's name as the cue that it's time to come. The basic idea is that you reward the bird for coming to you. You could start out with a signal the bird already knows, like holding your finger up for a step-up while saying its name, and giving the bird a reward when it climbs aboard. Increasing the distance gradually, hold your finger a little further away so the bird has to stretch to reach it, then further until it has to hop, then further until it has to fly. Don't expect everything to happen in one session, it might take quite a while to get the bird used to travelling longer distances to come to you. Reward the bird each time it comes until the behavior is well established.

Tielfan has some good suggestions and ideas there for you RosaBrideSama.
I would also talk to your Tiel alot and use its name so it begins to understand that that word is associated with him/her self. Enjoy the training process. Praise your tiel for every little step in the right direction. Love the images tielfan of your flock. *scratches head of tiel sitting on her wrist as she types this* Cheers, Bulli |
