I’m sorry to hear of the problem with your Senegal. It sounds as if in your Senegal’s opinion she has chosen your wife as her mate and is defending her and her territory from you.
When your wife is out of your home and you interact with your Senegal, is she friendlier and not biting? You say you’ve had her for three years, do you know how old she is? How does your Senegal get to you to you to bite you? Have you removed her from he cage and are holding her? Is she out of her cage and she walks over to you? Does she fly to attack you? When your wife is around and your Senegal bites you, what does your wife do? I’ve had my Senegal for nearly three and one-half years and he was three-months old when I brought him home. He will on occasion give a hard, aggressive bite. I consider there are three levels of his aggressive bites. The first of these bites is a quick attack, he bites and immediately lets go, with a hard bite. It may be painful, but seldom leaves a mark. The second is a longer and more powerful bite. He’ll hold on for a few seconds. This bite will always leave a mark and often cause a small wound that stops bleeding quickly. The third bite is long (15-30 seconds), his most powerful and always causes a lot of bleeding. With these bites he will usually jump and attack. While he is biting me he will be grinding his beak into the bite. When I finally get him off me he will be glaring at me through squinting eyes . . . what I consider an indication of his most aggressive display. These bites always leave a bigger, bleeding wound that will take weeks to fully heal. How would you describe the bites your Senegal is giving you? With some more information about your situation and the bites you are receiving, we may be able to give you some suggestions. |
