Scared Cockatiel

Hello, Does anyone know how I can train my cockatiel who has been grabbed alot in the past with her previous owner has made her afraid of hands going near her? She does get on your hand but not willinely but I have no idea how idea how to build her trust up when she runs away so much. I have got a clicker training kit but shes scared of the target stick. She is a lovely bird but I would like her to be more comfortable with us but dont know the best way?

Yes, holding treats in your hand for her to eat is a good way to make friends. Millet spray is one of the best treats for this since it's long and you can hold it so she can eat it without getting too close to the evil hand at first, and then gradually adjust your grip. Once she's comfortable eating millet close to your hand, you can start using it to lure her up onto your hand.
