I have been working on taming a GCC. First thing I did was clip/trim th wings and toe nails.
They I started offering millet in my hand. I do not use a clicker. I want my birds to want to be with me and use voice cues not that annoying clicking sound I never can get timed right anyways. So far she is doing well. Still wont step up but she well come out of the cage and explore me. lol She likes to taste me. It tickles.

I don't clip toenails. Its not necessary to me. IT might hurt a little when they go through your clothes but to me its mor impotant that they have those long toenails to grip and perch. I do clip wings for safety and training. I talk to them softly for a few days after I gettehm so they are used to me and my noises. Then I put my hand in the cage for as long as possible so they have plenty of time to get comfortable with it. After they start eating the millet from my hand I hold it in my fingers. onve they get comfortable enough with that I put little pieces of millet in my hand so they have to take it out of my fingers not just off the sprey. THan I start the step up training by placing millet on the other side of my finger so that they have to step onto my finger to get the millet. Once they are comfortable stepping up inside the cage I try and take them closer to the door of the cage and eventually out of it. then I start with whatever I want them to do outside the cage and alwasy use millet for a reward.

Let I remind you that training a bird takes a lot of time. My birds are still not very comfortable being on my hand. Its not that I have done anything to them, they more or less like their cage more than me. Once I get them away from their cages though they seem to cling to me, because of the unfamiliar surroundings. I also like using a target stick to train birds. If you want them to come to a spot you touch the stick to it and they will come to that spot, then you treat them. There is more indepth steps to it than that. Look it up on yahoo. So its worked for me!

Yes it takes loads of time. I have had my budgie for a little over 6mnths and he won't sit on my hsoulder for then 10 seconds and he won't let me pet his back. I can touch his face and beak sometimes but rarely so pretty much all i can do is transport him haha. My cockatiel loves to sit on my shoulder and I can pet him a little but not much.
