HELP: Jadie on the Carpet

I posted this in the parrotlet forum but thought it might be better here. Jade is in the habit of wondering around on the carpet. It started when bits of seed fell down. She seems to find foraging around on the ground rewarding but I am afraid she'll get hurt. I vacuum all the time (as i am sure most of you can relate to) but she's munching all day long so it's impossible to keep up with her!

Does anyone have any training tips to get her not to walk on the floor? I thought I could pick her up and put her in her time-out cage but she flies to her stand before I can and i don't want to punish her for that.

I'm posting a picture of her playstand so you can get an idea of how easy it is for her to wonder to the floor. When I placed newspaper underneath it she seemed even more prone to wonder so I stopped doing that quite a while ago.

You should get a heavy plastic drop cloth (like they use for painting) and lay it across the entire carpet before letting her out. It is much easier to see hazards laying on top of smooth plastic than nestled in carpeting. Just make sure that you are supervising her enough to ensure that she doesn't EAT the drop cloth! You can also try spreading out a clean sheet across the carpet under her playstand before letting her out. As it's machine washable, that should also be much easier to control and then you don't have the worry of eating plastic or the harmful chemicals the drop cloth may be made of!
