It finally "clicked". My pionus learning to retrieve... [video]

Here's a session of my WC Pionus working on her "retrieve" trick.
YouTube - Mika Pi Learning to Retrieve

This is her first full session working on this trick since we had a breakthrough the previous day where she finally started to understand what I was asking for. This is also the first time that I'm asking her to bring me the ring (rather than my giving it to her with one hand and asking for it with the other) AND the first time she's being asked to retrieve in lots of different directions (plus she's on a different surface than where we'd been training so that I could get it on film).

So, lots of new criteria for her to process. She did a great job, considering.

The retrieve trick is a big leap in difficulty from targeting. It's also the foundation for lots of other tricks (like putting coins in a piggy bank, ring toss, basketball, etc) so I expect the learning curve to naturalize from here. I'm expecting lots more progress in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
