Teaching the Birds to Tolerate Each Other...

Ok here's the pail in a neutral area of the bird room:

Of course, little piggy Shrek was the one that tipped over the bucket:

Jasmine approaches:

Shrek goes to see if she has something better than what he's eating:

When they can both focus on the food and not each other..progress is made.

That is true. I am hoping that the training continues as they mature. So far, they are coming along beautifully.

Wow, that is some color on your conure. I'd say you're doing well getting them that close without issues. Keep up the good work! (applause)

That is great that they are getting along without attacking one another! The conure is gorgeous, she is almost the same color as my new macaw baby!

That is a feat you may never accomplish.

I too use food with my 2 greys. I actually make them share a banana... Echo will share like nothing. It is Vern my older one. Not sure if it's the CAG, TAG size thing, age or just a dominate personality thing but it never fails I have to move the stand and banana away from Vern at least once and tell her to share as they eat the banana.

The cool thing is Vern will listen and learn each time and once again start to share the banana after it's been taken away for all of about 20 seconds.

Just an awesome thing how they understand us isn't it...

They don't have to share the food, just tolerate each other without attacking.

The only one Shrek shares food with is his BFF Rosie (they actually will eat out of the same bowl).

I agree...I am constantly amazed with how intelligent these birds are!

With our two it's the human factor....

As you can see in the pictures below they will tolerate each other.

Here's the problem, they are both possessive about both my husband and I equally, and jealous of each other. Hence, the human factor!

Put one of us in the mix and if you get the two of them within a couple feet apart they will attack each other. Sometimes they just fly in and attack the other one. Wawa is particularly good a "buzzing".

I wish it would be that simple, we've tried! Just be warned that often us humans are the brunt of the bite when the other one comes near their human. LOL We have the ear wounds to prove it.

I have heard of that. I basically leave the birds to themselves..just being there..and letting them seek me out when they want to be cuddled. Otherwise, they are on their own to entertain themselves (I am near by)....none of them have a "mating?" bond with me. Currently, it's more of a "flock" mentality in here.
